Obama: President-elect or King Barack the First?

Post  Rottweiler on Sun Nov 09, 2008 7:49 pm

It looks like our newly-elected Czar...eh...President Obama is not exactly willing to wait for Congress to get HIS Decrees...uh...changes for America in place. Instead, it seems that the "Executive Order" will be his "legislation of choice" in the new Administration. At least, this AP report--"Obama to use executive orders for immediate impact", by Stephen Ohlemacher, Associated Press Writer--indicates that one word that does NOT describe Obama is "patient".

Another term this former ATTORNEY does not understand, it seems, is "due process of law". Obama, according to the report, will be using his Executive authority to remove such things as restrictions on abortion as a condition of overseas aid, stop oil drilling in Utah, and allow embryonic stem cell research just to get back at Bush...and get their Commie-enviro "rent-seeker" leeches followers and supporters 'theirs'. But why not use the newly-elected Democratic majority "leverage" in Congress to get what Obama wants? It seems that Commissar...eh...President-elect Obama has this idea that "the sooner the better" and why "mess around" and follow the Constitution when handing down a pronouncement from "On High" is faster:

John Podesta, Obama's transition chief, said Sunday ...the president can use such orders to move quickly on his own.

"There's a lot that the president can do using his executive authority without waiting for congressional action, and I think we'll see the president do that," Podesta said. "I think that he feels like he has a real mandate for change. We need to get off the course that the Bush administration has set."

And to set one which would make the former Soviet Union's policies almost reasonable? C'mon now, the only reason Obama wants to continue Bush's mistaken use of these Executive Orders (and, let's face it, Bush used them to do things he should have frankly kept his Frat Boy nose out of ) is a major power grab that Congress and the Supreme Court cannot stop easily if at all. In short, Obama is going to use Executive Orders to "neuter" the other two branches of U.S. Government (Federal), resulting in a "silent Socialist coup" using the appearance of bi-partisan " cooperation to try to avoid trouble...and get his way fast, something that even a Democratic Congressional majority can't guarantee:

"Obama's advantage of course is he'll have the House and the Senate working with him, and that makes it easier," said Carl Tobias, a law professor at the University of Richmond. "But even then, having an immediate impact is very difficult to do because the machinery of government doesn't move that quickly."

Presidents long have used executive orders to impose policy and set priorities. ...

And bully everyone else into obedience...

Executive orders "have the power of law and they can cover just about anything," Tobias said...

Law that is imposed by one individual contrary to the Constitution. When this power of Executive Order (meant to be used only in times of extreme emergency, such as a direct military attack on American soil, not to put in someone's ideological nonsense without Congressional/Supreme Court review) is abused there can be no benefit for the American people.

In short: If we thought the Republicans were assholes who misused Executive Orders to put in what they wanted? We have, apparently, seen nothing yet.
